Ascenty has announced its plans to invest R$1.5 billion ($290 million) in Latin America. The funds will be used to develop five data centers in the region. The new facilities will be located in Colombia, Chile, and Brazil. Upon completion, Ascenty’s data center count in the region will hit 33. According to the local publication Inforchannel, about two-thirds of the investment comes from Ascenty’s cash flow and contributions from majority shareholders. The other $100m comes from a loan the company took earlier in the year to expand its data centers.
The new facilities are Bogota 1 and 2, with 12MW capacity and an area of 9,000 square meters each; Santiago 3, with 16MW and 21,000 square meters; and Sao Paulo 5 and 6, with 19MW and 7,000 square meters. Two of the planned facilities are scheduled to come online in 2023. The data centers are located in Brazil and Colombia. According to Ascenty, all data centers will be powered with 100% green energy.
