Ascenty has announced the opening of its second data center in Santiago, Chile, the Santiago 2. Located in the Quilicura district of the capital, the facility will span 21,000 sqm (226,000 sq ft), with 31MW of IT load and a capacity for up to 3,550 racks.
Plans were that the company would commence construction on the facility back in 2021, however, Covid-19 and supply chain issues meant the company faced delays.
Speaking about the reason for targeting the country for its expansion, Chris Torto, Ascenty’s CEO and founder, said: “Chile is a key and strategic country for Ascenty in Latin America.” Adding: “This new data center enables us to meet regional demands and continue our rapid expansion into other Latin American countries. We recently opened two data centers in Mexico and are looking to enter other local markets, such as Colombia and Peru.”
This facility means that Ascenty now has 22 datacenters in operation, with six under construction in Brazil, Chile and Mexico.
