20MW Data Center Proposed for Starbucks’ Seattle HQ in Washington

Colossus Data Center Advisors has submitted plans to develop a data center in Seattle, Washington, within the same building that houses Starbucks' global headquarters. According to Puget Sound Business Journal, The Seattle Times, and The Registry, the proposed facility would be located at 2401 Utah Ave**.** S in Seattle's SoDo district. The planned data center, with a capacity of less than 20MW, would repurpose a vacant former Amazon Fresh retail store and distribution center within the building. Amazon vacated the site in 2024.

The proposed data center would occupy 20,000 square feet (1,860 sqm) in the six-story building at the southern end of the SoDo complex, along with 25,600 square feet (2,380 sqm) in the site's nine-story main building. The Starbucks Center, originally built for Sears in 1915, spans 1.8 million square feet (170,000 sqm) and serves as Starbucks' global headquarters. Nitze-Stagen & Co. has owned the property since 1990.

Founded in 2014, Colossus Data Center Advisors focuses on data center development and was previously tied to a canceled project in Kansas.
The company did not comment on the proposal. The building’s owners said the filing is a feasibility study with no tenant secured. The sub-20MW project would fall below Seattle’s new data center moratorium threshold. Recent similar proposals in Seattle include projects by Digital Realty and Pacland in the SoDo area.2401_Utah_Ave._S_seatlle.width-358.jpg
