The data center project at the PORTS Technology Campus in Piketon, Ohio, is a development overseen by SB Energy, a SoftBank Group company, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Located on a 3,700-acre decommissioned uranium enrichment site, the facility is designed for an unprecedented total capacity. To support this load without impacting the local grid, SB Energy is spearheading the development of massive on-site natural gas generation, paired with additional power infrastructure.
Groundbreaking for the site occurred in March 2026, starting with an initial $10 billion phase. This first phase consists of four to six high-density buildings engineered using National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) liquid cooling specifications, which aim for a 1.036 PUE. While physical construction of the first buildings is scheduled for completion in early 2028, full power activation through AEP Ohio transmission upgrades is projected for 2029.
