The QAI Moon "Alpha Site" is a first-of-its-kind distributed AI data center located on the Wichita State University campus in Kansas. Announced in January 2026 as a joint venture between QumulusAI, Moonshot Energy, and Connected Nation Internet Exchange Points (IXP.us), the project functions as a carrier-neutral interconnection hub paired with modular "AI Pods."
The facility features dual, geographically diverse 400G IP transit connections to minimize latency for real-time AI inference. Scheduled to begin deployment by July 2026, this site serves as the operational blueprint for a planned national rollout across 25 initial sites, eventually scaling to 125 locations at research universities and regional hubs.
