Project Skyway is a proposal by developer Ryan Companies for a massive, 482-acre development in Pine Island, MN, which includes at least 100 acres of hyperscale data centers. Under one scenario, the data center facilities could reach 3 million square feet.

The project faces a major legal hurdle from a lawsuit filed by the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (MCEA) against Pine Island and the developer.

MCEA alleges the city's initial environmental review was inadequate, specifically failing to analyze the data center's enormous demand for resources. The complaint highlights potential annual consumption of 55.7 million gallons of water (half the city's use) and 100 times the city's electricity demand. MCEA is asking the court to pause the project immediately until a thorough, legally compliant review is completed.
