In August 2025, Ireland’s National Trust, An Taisce, filed a formal appeal with An Bord Pleanála to challenge the conditional planning permission for a massive data center project in County Louth.
While the project features sustainable elements like solar panels and "green walls," An Taisce’s objection highlights critical environmental concerns, specifically the vast energy consumption and potential carbon emission breaches under the Climate Act. This appeal adds to the growing tension between Ireland’s expanding digital infrastructure, with Drogheda already hosting Amazon facilities, and the nation’s stringent climate and water conservation obligations.
