Orange Belgium Opens a New Data Center in Antwerp
March 19, 2019
Orange Belgium Hoboken
Orange Belgium began designing the building in 2016 in collaboration with META Architects and engineering firms Ingenium and Deerns. The goal was to create an economic data center that would stand out for its performance and durability (with an electrical capacity of 3MW and an energy efficiency indicator of less than 1.2). Supported by Engie Fabricom, construction began in May 2017 and will be completed by the end of summer 2018. Michaël Trabbia, CEO of Orange, and Johan Deschuyffeleer, Chairman of the Board of Directors, officially inaugurated the data center today, in the presence of the Flemish Minister of Innovation, Philippe Muyters.
The data center, which will be used for radio, telecom and computer equipment, offers a total capacity of more than 500 racks of 52 high density units, installed on the equivalent of 12 tennis courts. Capable of using free cooling for 98% of the year, this impressive building has a much higher eco-efficiency than a conventional data center. The systematic redundancy of the essential elements also guarantees an excellent level of security and resistance.
