The Kolo SE3 Piteå data center carries a storied legacy as a pioneer of the Swedish data center industry, beginning in 2004 when it was founded under the name Fortlax. The facility gained international recognition for its unique "military-grade" roots; its flagship site was originally constructed by the Swedish National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA) in 1991, providing a foundation of extreme physical security and EMP shielding that remains a core feature today.
In 2019, the site was acquired by EcoDataCenter, which integrated its high-security reputation with a focus on 100% renewable energy and "climate-positive" operations.
In early 2025, the facility was acquired by CapMan Infra to serve as a cornerstone of the newly launched Kolo DC platform, continuing its evolution from a regional high-security fortress into a modern, Arctic-cooled hub for high-density AI and HPC workloads.
F2 is built in a building previously used for cash management, and offers scalable server space up to 10,000 m². The center is run by a hundred percent renewable hydro energy from Luleå River – which in turn provides both globally competitive operating costs and exceptionally high stability.
The fact that BMW among other has chosen FORTLAX for Colocation and Cloud solutions is an indicator of the high standard of services and data security that fortlax offers through its two existing data centers. With yet another data center, built to the latest technology and security class, capacity is further increased. This enables Fortlax as a leading data center provider to offer its top drawer services to even more customers. Just like our previous two data centers, F1 and F2, our new data center F3 is built using the very latest technology and design so that you the customer in fact never need to give security a second thought. It will simply be there.
