Google has officially broken ground on its first self-developed data center in Sweden, located in Horndal.

Built to support growing demand for AI, Cloud, and Search services, the facility will feature an innovative air-cooling system to eliminate water waste and will route its excess server heat directly into the local district heating network. The project will create 100 full-time jobs, run on 24/7 carbon-free energy backed by local wind projects, and includes a €5 million community fund for regional sustainability and education.

The project actually began in October 2017, when Google originally purchased the 109-hectare plot of land in Horndal for roughly 160 kilometers northwest of Stockholm.
