Fibre Centre-770 Saint George

Overview

Fibre Centre's flagship facility is a network-neutral carrier hotel, data centre, and meet-me-room at 770 St George Blvd in Moncton, New Brunswick. It is the junction point where Atlantic Canada's submarine and terrestrial dark-fibre routes interconnect, with 22 Tier I–IV network providers, six diverse points of entry, two meet-me-rooms (MMR I and MMR II), and no monthly cross-connect fees. The facility hosts the Moncton Internet Exchange (Moncton IX).

History

The facility was roughly four years in development before its official launch on February 6, 2015, backed by an initial $40,000 investment from the City of Moncton and led by co-founders Uri Litvinenko and Hunter Newby. Dark-fibre service linking Moncton and Boston went live in April 2015. CIRA announced the Moncton IX at Fibre Centre on April 26, 2017 (Canada's 11th internet exchange point and Atlantic Canada's second), with service activation that spring. The facility has since added a second meet-me-room (MMR II) and high-density AI colocation, including immersion and liquid cooling support.

Utility

NB Power serves the site; the provincial grid mix is roughly 75% non-emitting. The facility is fed from diverse serving substations with A & B power, 120V–600V AC and -48V DC options, and UPS plus generator backup. The operator markets up to 30 MW of power available at the site. New Brunswick's government and NB Power announced plans in 2026 to require flexibility from, and place limits on, large new data-centre loads, so multi-MW expansions involve provincial engagement.
