Opponents argue that Equinix's land rezoning application lacks critical transparency regarding environmental impacts, specifically failing to disclose localized emissions, noise levels, and exact water consumption metrics—a highly sensitive issue following Cape Town's historical "Day Zero" water crisis. While Equinix maintains that the 30-acre facility will utilize waterless, dry-air cooling systems, the multi-stage project is currently paused while the City of Cape Town evaluates the formal opposition.
