• 2024-10-21 — DMG Blockchain Solutions and the Malahat Nation (via economic-development corporation YOS) sign an MOU to co-develop Canada's first Indigenous-led AI data centers, roughly 30 MW split between the parties.
• 2025-10-28 — Second MOU to form the Malahat-DMG Utility Limited Partnership, a Malahat-majority-owned regulated private utility to supply power (and future FortisBC natural gas) to on-reserve clean-tech and digital infrastructure.
• 2026-06 — DMG reports the definitive agreement is still pending, anticipated in the coming months.

Project Profile

• Developer: DMG Blockchain Solutions in joint venture with the Malahat Nation
• Location: Malahat Business Park, 1800 Trowsse Road, Mill Bay (Bamberton), Vancouver Island, BC; on Malahat Indian Reserve 11
• Use: AI / high-performance computing; possible initial bitcoin mining prior to HPC conversion
• Co-located ventures on the same 44-acre park: an Indigenous-owned battery manufacturing plant and the planned Malahat Film Studio

Utility

• Grid utility: BC Hydro, the provincial Crown utility (~98% hydroelectric). British Columbia is not part of a North American RTO/ISO.
• Vancouver Island supply: the Island is an islanded grid fed from the BC mainland via the Arnott substation in Delta to Vancouver Island Terminal near Duncan over 230/138 kV submarine cables. New large loads in the Mill Bay/Duncan area require a BC Hydro interconnection study and likely substation upgrades.
• On-reserve distribution: power is planned to be wheeled through the proposed Malahat-DMG Utility Limited Partnership (MDULP), a Malahat-majority-owned regulated private utility supplying electricity and, in later phases, FortisBC natural gas to on-reserve clean-tech and digital infrastructure.
