Datagrid’s Invercargill AI Factory is a 280MW hyperscale AI-focused data center campus in Makarewa, Southland, approved in March 2026 and backed by NZ$3.5 billion in investment. The project will be powered via a dedicated Transpower grid connection and renewable energy agreements, including a 140MW deal with Mercury, and supported by a new trans-Tasman subsea cable network. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with initial operations targeted for 2028 and full buildout extending into the 2030s.
