The Colleferro data center is a planned campus dedicated to artificial intelligence workloads, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome in Italy's Lazio region, on a greenfield site bounded by a motorway, a consular road and a high-speed railway line. The design uses a closed-circuit cooling system with water recirculation and rainwater harvesting, supported by on-site photovoltaic generation and gas-fired emergency generators fed by pipeline, removing the need for on-site fuel storage. The municipal council approved the necessary zoning variation in August 2026 after a two-year administrative process, with a neighbouring municipality separately approving new road access. Final authorization from the national environment ministry remains outstanding, and construction is expected to begin in 2027.
