Go to PodcastRenewable energy developer Aurinkokarhu has announced plans for a data center in Närpiö (Närpes), Finland, securing a preliminary land deal for 18 hectares with local landowners and the municipal government.
Beyond expanding the firm's growing 160MW data center project pipeline, the facility features a circular energy arrangement where a letter of intent signed with local utility Närpes Fjärrvärme will channel the facility's excess heat directly into the town's district heating network. According to utility leadership, this captured waste heat is expected to meet the majority of the area's heating demands, replacing the need for a previously planned electric boiler and ensuring long-term, cost-competitive heat for local residents while discussions with prospective end-users and investors continue.
