Aruba S.p.A. develops and operates the Global Cloud Data Center (IT3) campus at Via San Clemente 53 in Ponte San Pietro (BG), near Bergamo and about 40 km from Milan. The campus runs north to south between the Brembo river and Via San Clemente on the former Legler cotton mill, a textile site active from 1875 to 2010. Aruba bought the whole ex-Legler compound in October 2015 and redeveloped it on more than 200,000 m² of land.
Masterplan
Aruba converts the old mill sheds into data center buildings, alongside offices, a logistics warehouse and a 400-seat auditorium. A national environmental approval (MASE VIA decree DM 592, October 2025) covers the final layout of four data center buildings. The remaining heritage mill buildings are not convertible to data center use.
Power
- E-Distribuzione supplies the campus at medium voltage through Aruba-owned substations. E-Distribuzione is building a new high-voltage primary substation on its own land at the south edge of the campus, beside the Brembo. Aruba holds a Provincia di Bergamo authorization (2021) for its own high-voltage substation next to it.
- Aruba owns three hydroelectric plants on the Brembo, at Brembate di Sopra, Ponte Briolo and Paladina, which produce about 20,000 MWh a year.
- Rooftop and facade solar covers the buildings, and grid energy is certified renewable (GO).
- Each building has 2N diesel generators (Pramac/Perkins sets of about 1.36 MW each).
Cooling
The halls use open-loop groundwater cooling. A regional concession covers 8 wells in Valbrembo (up to 800 l/s). Air/water chillers take over in emergency mode.
Connectivity and certifications
The campus is carrier neutral, with a Milan Internet eXchange (MIX) PoP. Carriers include TIM, Fastweb, WindTre, Vodafone, Retelit, Cogent, Irideos and Planetel. It is certified ANSI/TIA-942 Rating 4 and ISO 22237, plus ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 and 50001.
Tenants
Named customers include Euronext, Regione Lombardia, Sisal, 3BMeteo, Ducati, Yokohama, Alce Nero and Sportler.
