Amazon: IDA Blanchardstown Campus

Amazon Web Services' Blanchardstown campus occupies a 13.08-hectare site in the IDA Blanchardstown Business & Technology Park, Dublin 15, in Fingal. The site lies between Ballycoolin Road to the north-east and Snugborough Road to the south-east. Amazon Data Services Ireland Ltd operates it as part of the AWS Europe (Ireland) region.

History. Amazon started in the former Hexagon manufacturing facility, refurbished as a data storage building under permissions granted in 2010 and 2012. Fingal County Council then permitted three purpose-built two-storey data storage buildings in 2013, 2016 and 2018. The last one replaced the demolished Kingston Technology building. A connected two-storey extension to the Hexagon building was permitted in 2018.

Infrastructure. Grid power arrives through the Cloghran 110 kV air-insulated substation on the east side of the site. The substation was permitted in 2012, is owned by ESB Networks and is operated by EirGrid. Two Amazon-owned transformer compounds serve the buildings. Backup power comes from battery UPS and 70 diesel standby generators; together with two fire pumps they total 416.5 MWth of thermal input. Amazon began switching the generators to HVO in 2023. The EPA granted Industrial Emissions Licence P1172-01 for the site in July 2023. Cooling uses outside air with evaporative assist. The newest building can take heat-recovery coils for a future district heating scheme.

Neighbours. Equinix, K2 Data Centres and Keppel also operate data centres in the park. Amazon's larger Mulhuddart campus on Cruiserath Road is about 1.7 km to the north-west.
