Amazon Web Services' EPA-licensed data center installation in the IDA-managed Clonshaugh Business & Technology Park, Dublin 17, about 6 km north of the city centre and 3 km south of Dublin Airport. It sits on two parcels either side of an estate road near the park entrance off Oscar Traynor Road (R104), with the Santry River to the south.

Land

The EPA licence boundary covers 9.963 ha: 6.993 ha on the northern parcel and 2.970 ha on the southern parcel. Amazon owns the southern parcel (the former Ricoh building and Units 15-16) and part of the northern parcel, and leases the rest. The northern parcel was formerly a printing works and the Acco/Rexel site. A 2019 permission for a T5 Data Centers data center on the southern parcel lapsed. Amazon, through Colliers Properties LLC, won permission for its own scheme there in August 2022 (DCC 3641/21).

Power

  • ESB Networks supplies the site. The northern parcel takes power from the Newbury 110 kV GIS substation, which ESB owns and operates on land Amazon leases.
  • The southern parcel has its own ESB medium-voltage substation, first built under the 2019 T5 permission and extended for Amazon's scheme.
  • Each building has its own diesel/HVO emergency generators, with no interconnection between buildings. The northern parcel has 40 x 5.44 MWth units. The southern parcel has 10 x 6.49 MWth, 1 x 3.6 MWth and 1 x 2.19 MWth units, most fitted with SCR NOx abatement.

Cooling

The halls use outside-air free cooling with evaporative assist. One small building uses refrigerant-based mechanical cooling. Rooftop solar PV sits on the largest southern building.

Permits

EPA Industrial Emissions Licence P1186-01 (2023) covered the northern buildings. The reviewed licence P1186-02 (2026) extends it to the southern parcel. Greenhouse gas permit IE-GHG173.
