Dec 16, 2025 | Posted by Abdul-Rahman Oladimeji

A new Tier III AI data center has been proposed in downtown Lewiston, Maine, in the currently vacant Bates Mill No.3. The proposed project, which is being developed by MillCompute LLC, would become the state’s second-largest AI data center.

Lewiston City administrator Bryan Kaenrath said the project would bring in just under $800,000 in tax revenue for the city, as well as create 20-30 jobs in the area. The proposed data center will take up the first two floors of Bates Mill No.3, around 85,000 sq ft (7,896 sqm).

A memo sent to Lewiston city councilors said MillCompute’s team includes “local leadership and experts from across the country in data center construction, operation, and finance.”

There are 12 data centers in Maine.
