Tesla appears poised to enter the containerized data center market, according to a new trademark filing. Reported by Electrek and others, the company has submitted an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a modular data center product called “Megapod,” described as a hardware system designed for AI computing.
According to the filing, the pods will reportedly comprise “computer servers, computer hardware for artificial intelligence processing, computer networking hardware, electrical power distribution units, and cooling systems, sold as a unit.”
Full details on the proposed product and any potential launch timeline have not been disclosed. The “Megapod” filing is an intent-to-use trademark, indicating Tesla is seeking to secure the name ahead of any commercial rollout. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the application has been accepted for processing but has not yet been assigned to an examiner.
Modular data centers are already a crowded market, though Tesla has existing exposure through its Megapack battery systems, which are used in data center applications and have been deployed by Elon Musk’s xAI in Tennessee. xAI is also leasing GPU capacity to external customers, including Anthropic and Google. The “Megapod” name is already used in the industry by companies like Submer and Mitsubishi for data center-related products.
