Sify Technologies: Sify to expand data center capacity in response to increasing demand

Sify has announced that it is expanding its data center capacity, outlining that it will add around 350 MW over the next few years. Already the company already has 11 facilities located in Chennai, Mumbai, Noida, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, together totaling 100 MW. However, now, in response to increasing demand, it will invest 3,000 crores (404 million US dollars) over the next two years; 1,322 crores (178 million US dollars (USD) ) of this is allocated for 2023.
Further to this, three greenfield data center projects are currently in the design stage, which are set to add another 110 MW of capacity. This is in addition to the ‘Chennai 1’ data center at Tidel Park, offering 4MW of capacity and another new, upcoming facility at Siruser.
Speaking to TOI, MP Vijay Kumar, Executive Director and Group CFO, Sify, said: “We have committed plans on the ground for around 200 MW of design capacity, about 50 MW of which will become operational this financial year and the balance in following periods.”
Kumar, noted that post-pandemic, there is considerable interest from hyperscalers for data center capacity and said that this is expected to grow at “the current pace” for the next ten years at least.
