QTS Ashburn-Shellhorn, our newest greenfield data center campus in the Ashburn, VA market has gotten underway in a hurry - with construction five weeks in and well ahead of schedule. The QTS Development Team’s commitment to speed and quality is strongly enriched by our partnership with Loudoun County as a part of the Loudoun County Fast Track program, providing QTS the ability to start construction 67 days ahead of schedule.
Ashburn-Shellhorn is situated on 24 acres of owned land between Loudoun County Parkway and Shellhorn Drive and will provide 84 megawatts across two planned facilities. The initial building will feature 42MW across 300,000 gross square feet and 162,000 sq. ft. of data hall space. The adjacent, existing Dominion power substation is expandable to support continued campus growth.
“We are excited to bring QTS Ashburn-Shellhorn to the community and customers through the fast-track schedule,” said QTS Chief Hyperscale Officer, Tag Greason. “Being ‘powered by logistics’ is one of the QTS Hyperscale Team’s driving mantras,” continued Greason. “Which means that our industry-best development team, including experienced architects and innovative engineers, coupled with committed vendors, always deliver the best supply chain execution for the design and construction of QTS greenfield projects. This project is no different.”
QTS Ashburn-Shellhorn’s modular power design is being assembled off-site and began months ago, effectively putting QTS 'out of the ground' since January of 2020. The QTS Development Team, which is led by Chief Operating Officer, David Robey, has built strong vendor relationships with the nation’s leading modular power suppliers to ensure a ready for service date of January 2021.
