PLDT No Longer in a Hurry To Sell Off Its Data Center Unit

Mar 18, 2022 | Posted by Abdul-Rahman Oladimeji

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, PLDT is having second thoughts over the sale of its data center unit. The Philippine telco has eased off its decision to sell its data center business after completing a deal to divest its cell tower asset. PLDT revealed earlier in the month that it is divesting half of its cell towers for over $950 million. The company’s chair, Manuel V. Pangilinan, said the sale of the cell towers would help satisfy the company’s financial requirements and targets. He added that it would help reduce debts and produce positive cashflows.

Foreign companies have approached PLDT about buying out its data center unit. However, the company still has a great interest in growing the unit. PLDT has ten data centers under its belt, with a combined capacity of 72MW. It has also broken ground on developing a 100MW data center in Santa Rosa.

ePLDT has 12 sites.
