A 600MW data center could be developed in Coachella, Southern California. Developer DMK Projects is proposing to build the facility on a 240-acre site at the corner of 52nd Avenue and Fillmore Street.
Project documents presented at a City Council meeting on February 11 indicate that DMK plans for the data center to deliver at least 270MW of electrical capacity across six buildings. Although a formal planning application has not yet been submitted, local residents have already begun organizing opposition to the project, citing concerns over strain on local resources and limited community benefits.
According to the City of Coachella, no Planning Commission or City Council meetings have yet been scheduled to consider the project. Coachella, which shares its name with the annual music festival, is a city in Southern California.
While Coachella is not traditionally a data center hub, the area has recently seen growing interest from developers. In neighboring Imperial County, officials are currently weighing a proposal for a 330MW data center reportedly linked to Google. That project has also drawn significant opposition from residents, who have raised concerns over a perceived lack of transparency and engagement from local authorities.
