Equinix is adding a tenth data center into Paris on its Paris Equinix's Saint-Denis campus, with the new site named PA10. In the first phase of construction, the project will offer 3,775 sqm and 1,525 cabinets of capacity. Meanwhile, it will offer 5,775 sqm (62,100 sq ft) of colocation space and ~2,250 cabinets when complete.
According to the company, sustainability is a central focus of the build. A number of initiatives are planned, including a heat recovery technology project designed to heat the local community swimming pool. In addition to this, the facility will also feature a 430 sqm (4,600 sq ft) rooftop greenhouse, which will house a rooftop garden where fruit and vegetables will be grown and use a hydroponic system with the intention of reducing water consumption via a water recovery system. While it will reduce heat emissions, it will also retain rainwater and limit the loss of water into the sewer.
According to Régis Castagné, managing director for France at Equinix, these efforts show that the company is "spearheading innovations" to "address the environmental impact of digital."
Speaking on the impact of this new facility, Charles Meyers, president and CEO at Equinix, said: "In support of the Choose France initiative, today's investment and expansion serves to bolster the country's digital infrastructure capabilities, providing local and multi-national corporations with a foundational source of differentiation and the global platform needed to thrive in today's digital economy."
Adding: "Equinix is connecting digital leaders, enabling them to simplify operations, improve customer experience and accelerate the launch of new products and services."
