Equinix has shut down a data center in Paris and inked a new pre-leasing agreement for new construction in the French city with French real estate firm Icade. In its Q4 2022 financial report issued last week, the colo company said PA1 had been shut down. The purpose-built facility at 167 Rue de la Belle Étoile provides about 28,000 square feet of colocation space. Prior to Equinix's 2007 acquisition of the company, the location functioned as an IXEurope facility.
Meanwhile, Equinix has inked a pre-lease with Icade, creating a new data center in Paris for the firm that will go operational in 2025. The project is a shell and core rehabilitation of a parking garage in the Portes De Paris Business Park in Seine-Saint-Denis, according to an Icade investor day presentation. The shell and core will be constructed by Icade, while Equinix will do the fit-out work. The project will be completed in the third quarter of 2025 and will cost $38.4 million, according to Icade. Demolition is scheduled to begin in 2023. Equinix has inked a nine-year, $2.35 million per year pre-lease deal with the corporation.
According to reports, the project will involve waste heat recovery and a connection to a district heating system. Currently, Equinix maintains nine data centers in Paris; PA2-7 and PA10 are retail IBX colocation facilities, and PA8x and PA9 are hyper-scale facilities under its xScale brand. With the exception of PA5, PA6, and PA7, the corporation owns all facilities. PA10 was announced in January 2022 and debuted in the third quarter of that year. The second phase of the project will add 700 cabinets in 2024. The reports for the fourth quarter of 2022 for Equinix also included the closing of its ML4 facility in Milan, Italy.
