OVHcloud has announced that it will release a full report of Scope 3 emissions produced by its cloud usage beginning this summer. Scope 3 emissions are those which are produced by a company indirectly up and down its value chain, and are increasingly coming under scrutiny. Despite flying under the radar for quite some time, Scope 3 emissions make up for around 70% of a company's emissions.

OVHcloud has outlined that carbon emissions from the cloud provider's services used by each customer, including from its manufacturing and its use of energy, will be included in its calculation.

Speaking about this at a recent press event, OVHcloud's environmental product manager Aurore Vaudatin told DCD: "We consider all the environmental impacts from cradle to grave. Because of our vertically integrated model, we know all the components in our servers, and can add the manufacturing impact of each component. We also consider the electricity used by your server, with an emission factor based on the electricity source mix of each country."
