Oman Data Park has announced plans to build a new facility on Zanzibar island in Tanzania after the Sultanate of Oman and Zanzibar signed a number of MoUs relating to higher education, research and innovation, and digital infrastructure. The latter related, in part, to the signing of an MoU between Oman Data Park and Zanzibar's Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport for the new data center.

This is part of wider plans that include automating tendering systems, transforming to an eGovernment, storing data and information for the public and private sectors, and bolstering data security in Zanzibar.

Speaking about these new development plans, the company said in a LinkedIn post: "We are proud to have signed a memorandum of understanding with The Government of Zanzibar to establish, manage and operate a data center in Zanzibar."
