Odata invests in wind park for renewable supply

Feb 28, 2023 | Posted by MadalineDunn

Odata has reportedly acquired a minority stake in Omega Energia's 212MW Assuruá IV wind farm, in Bahia state's Xique-Xique municipality. Through this acquisition, the Brazil-based datacenter group will secure renewable energy for its data centers. Moreover, the company claims that the investment means that Odata will be the first data center hyperscaler in Latin America, to enable 100% of the power consumption from direct participation in renewable energy projects, as a so-called "self-generator of energy."

The company said that in the age of digitization and climate change, zero-carbon energy resources are paramount to achieving ESG and climate goals.
Further details around the stake Odata bought, or the amount of energy produced by the wind farm that will go to its own usage has not yet been shared.

Speaking about this, Odata CEO Ricardo Alário said. "Our commitment to ESG goes back a long way, and now we are taking another step forward by signing this agreement for the consumption of renewable energy, through a partnership in an Omega Energia wind farm."

Adding: "Considering our strong growth and high demand for energy, it is important for us to team up with great partners with specific expertise to offer sustainable solutions to our customers. We are pleased to partner with Omega on this project."
