Iren has completed its acquisition of Spanish data center developer Ingenostrum. The deal adds 490MW of secured power capacity in Spain and marks Iren’s first expansion into Europe, with Nostrum continuing under the Iren brand.
Ingenostrum has a development pipeline across Spain, including 214MW projects in Extremadura (Badajoz and Cáceres), 29MW in Guadalajara, 21MW in Pinto and Zamudio, and an 18MW site in Galicia. The Galicia facility is already partially live at 8.5MW, with plans to expand to 40MW. Iren co-founder Daniel Roberts said Spain is a key market for AI infrastructure due to strong renewable energy and fiber connectivity, adding that Nostrum provides both secured power and a local development team.
Ingenostrum CEO Gabriel Nebrada said joining Iren will accelerate development of Spain’s AI infrastructure pipeline. Formerly known as Iris Energy, Iren is expanding its AI cloud footprint across North America and Australia, including a planned 800MW campus in Bundey, South Australia.
