President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the 41-terabyte countrywide tier-4 Data Center in Kano on Monday. During the ceremony, Prof. Ali Isa Pantami, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, stated that the data center was the first of its kind in northern Nigeria and the finest in the country to date. According to him, the reliability of the facility's data collection is 99.99% or nearly one hundred percent. Prof. Pantami further pledged that the center would enhance the digital economy, create employment opportunities, and strengthen cybersecurity while assisting the nation in consolidating its gains in the digital economy.
With its 41 terabytes of memory storage and 2.2 petabytes of storage capacity, the facility, which Pantami characterized as a technologically-advanced facility, is designed to provide more storage space for public and private sectors across the nation. Pantami revealed that the ministry has its primary data center in Abuja, a secondary data center in the South, and a third data center in the North West. Those of Abuja and the South were created several years ago. This facility, however, is superior because it is a Tier 4 data center. The Abuja facility is a Tier 3 data center. Therefore, this is an enhancement of the country's extant data centers in both the private and public sectors. Galaxy Backbone Limited oversaw the project's execution.
