NextDC Launches M3 Data Center in Melbourne

NextDC has opened another data center in Melbourne, Australia. The facility sees the company more than double its existing capacity in Melbourne. M3 is located in West Footscray and spans 1 million square feet (100,000 square meters). It also offers 150MW of capacity. The facility offers 441,300 square feet (41,000 square meters) of technical space across 41 data halls. The space can also hold up to 23,000 racks. 

According to NextDC, it will invest up to AU$1.5 billion in the project. The CEO of NextDC, Craig Scroggie, said: “The Australian digital economy is growing rapidly, accelerating the need for interconnected cloud services, sovereign secured, and sustainable solutions enabled by Tier IV certified facilities to assure business resilience. The size and capability of M3 provides a gateway for enterprise and government organizations to directly connect and integrate their IT infrastructure with public and private cloud providers.”

NextDC currently operates two data centers in Melbourne. M1 offers 6MW of power while M2 offers 60MW of power.
