Western Australia has received an Edge data center module from NextDC. According to the company's website, the 1.5MW, single-story PH1 provides technical space for 320 racks across 7,825 square feet. The company has projected a go-live date of August 2023.

The company stated that the data center is "strategically located" in close proximity to mining and port operations, with access to operational centers in Perth, and offers mining firms new connectivity and infrastructure options.

Vocus' Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore Cable (DJSC) subsea cable was recently expanded to Port Hedland, and Darwin – a city where NextDC is developing a facility, with Vocus as the anchor tenant – and the telco is contemplating a terrestrial fiber route to Perth.

This will be the second Edge portal for NextDC. In December 2021, the company announced SC1, a 1MW facility in Maroochydore, Queensland, along the Sunshine Coast, with space for 84 racks across 3,120 sq ft.
