Metro Edge Development Partners has announced its plans to develop a new data center in Chicago, Illinois. The real estate investment firm has already secured a 75-year lease on a 1.97-acre land in the Illinois Medical District (IMD). In addition, the company has the exclusive rights to develop and operate a data center in the district. Metro Edge is looking to develop a 21MW, five-story data center with up to 17,750 square meters (191,000 square feet) of space.
The company expects to break ground on the facility in 2022, with completion scheduled for 2024. The CEO of Metro Edge, Craig Huffman, said: “Metro Edge was founded with the intention of building data centers in underserved urban locations.” He continued by saying: “These infill locations are typically overlooked by traditional institutional owners but offer a unique opportunity to facilitate meaningful change in a community with a thoughtful, integrated development.”
Metro Edge was established in 2020 and targets life sciences, data centers, and technological developments in urban areas in the US.
