Facebook, now known as Meta, has plans to expand its Gallatin facility in Tennessee. Biz Journal was the first to report that the social media giant wants to construct another data center building at the Gallatin campus. The city council has also approved the plans for the development this week. Meta first revealed plans for expansion in 2020. The company will be developing a building with 45,000 square feet (4,180 square meters) of office space and 627,000 square feet (58,250 square meters) of data center space. There are also reports that the company will also develop another building at the site in the future.

With the planned expansion, Meta’s investment in the campus will now exceed over $1 billion from $800 million. Last year, Facebook also signed a 110MW power purchase agreement to buy solar energy for the Gallatin data center from 2023. The company also invested heavily last year in its data center infrastructure. It opened new data center campuses in Huntsville, Alabama, and Eagle Mountain, Utah. It also announced over 12 new data center buildings last year with more than five million square feet of space.
