Magnora Data Center ASA has acquired an operating data center in Oslo from an international telecom operator, adding ucommons.wikimedia.orgLandscape night view of Oslo's modern waterfront and business district, setting the geographic context of the metro strategy.p to 2MW of IT load. The seller is not named, and financial terms were not disclosed.

Magnora Data Center owns 75 percent of the facility, and Blix Group AS, the owner of colocation provider Blix Solutions AS, holds the remaining 25 percent. Blix will connect the site to its own fiber network, linking it with the other Magnora and Blix sites in Oslo. The acquisition is the third site in Magnora Data Center's metro strategy, which the company describes as a network of urban facilities in and around greater Oslo serving latency-sensitive and sovereign cloud customers.

The data center covers approximately 1,400 square meters and may be upgraded to meet the EN 50600 Availability Class 3, or Tier III, standard. The site is connected to existing fiber networks, giving low-latency access to enterprises across the Oslo region, and Magnora Data Center says that taking over an operating facility provides short time to market and cost-efficient upgrades. Data Center Dynamics also reported the acquisition.

"This project strengthens our partnership with Blix Group and adds a new, near-term deliverable to our Oslo data center pipeline," said Erik Sneve, chairman of Magnora Data Center ASA. "Taking over an operating facility gives us a fast track to revenue," Sneve said.

A district heating off-taker is being evaluated for the site's full heat capacity and cooling. The company says the arrangement would reduce the data center's CO2 footprint.

Magnora Data Center entered the data center market last year and was spun off from parent Magnora ASA, which holds 52 percent of the company, listing on Euronext Growth Oslo in June. In August, Magnora Data Center formed a 50:50 joint venture with Blix Group and acquired a commercial section of the Nedre Rommen 5 building in eastern Oslo for conversion into an AI data center. Blix's NR5 Oslo facility occupies that building and offers up to 3MW across 1,000 square meters.

According to Baxtel's Oslo market data, the metro has 46 data center facilities totaling 864,307 square feet and 227MW, and six facilities under construction.
