KIO Data Centers, a Mexico-based operator, has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Colombian energy company Celsia to supply electricity for its data center operations in Panama. First reported by Bnamericas, the agreement marks KIO Data Centers’ first recorded PPA in Panama. The volume of energy supply has not been disclosed. The company said the long-term contract provides “energy certainty” over an extended planning horizon and helps reduce exposure to market price volatility.
“This partnership positions Kio Data Centers as one of the providers with the highest level of energy certainty in the region,” the company added.
KIO Data Centers (formally known as KIO Networks) was founded in 2002 and operates primarily across Latin America and the Caribbean. The company runs around 20 data centers in the region, including 13 in Mexico, and has been owned by I Squared Capital since 2021. In Panama, KIO Data Centers operates a single campus in Panama City. The facility, known as KIO PAN1, began operations in 2012 and marked the company’s first expansion outside its home market. The site is relatively small-scale, comprising two data halls and offering approximately 600kW of IT capacity.
