Iron Mountain has topped out a new data center in Chennai, India.
“We are thrilled to celebrate a recent major milestone in our global expansion: the official topping-out ceremony of our Chennai CHN-1 data center in Ambattur!” the company said on LinkedIn this week. “As the structural framework reaches its highest point, we are one step closer to bringing 23.2MW of total power capacity to one of India’s most vital digital hubs.”
At full build-out, the two-building campus will deliver 42MW of capacity across 800,000 sq ft (74,322 sqm), with the first facility expected to go live later this year. Iron Mountain currently operates around 415MW of colocation and hyperscale capacity across 21 markets in seven countries spanning three continents.
Iron Mountain entered the Indian market in 2021 through a joint venture with Web Werks. Last year, it acquired the company, taking control of six data centers across five markets—Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, and Noida with a combined IT capacity of 14MW. The deal also included projects under development in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida, totaling 142MW of planned capacity.
