Some Internet services have been restored in Uganda following the country's general election last week. Internet services were shut down in Uganda ahead of the election by Uganda's Communications Commission "to mitigate the rapid spread of misinformation."
He saw off competition from former pop star, 43-year-old Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, to win his seventh successive election. Wine claimed "fake results" and "ballot stuffing," but has not provided any evidence. African Union election observers said they saw "no evidence of ballot stuffing."
"With Internet connectivity now largely restored in Uganda after elections held under a widespread Internet shutdown, metrics confirm that the exact same shutdown and social media filtering schedule and mechanism used during the 2021 elections have again been deployed," said NetBlocks on X.
