KAO Data: Infratil buys 40 percent stake in UK's Kao Data

New Zealand investor Infratil has acquired a 40 percent stake in UK data center firm Kao Data. It has also acquired two data centers to add to the company’s portfolio. Infratil is paying £120-130 million” (US$163-177m) for the acquisition of the stakes in the company. CEO of Kao Data, Lee Myall, said he’s happy to have the investment of Infratil in Kao data, and he looks forward to working with them to continue the company’s growth. He further noted that the investment gives Kao a strategic opportunity to fast-track its mission of supporting the computing requirements of advanced industries sustainably.

The agreement also sees Kao signing a contract to acquire two data centers with a long-term anchor lease. Kao didn’t reveal the terms or locations of the facilities, but the deals are expected to close before 2022 runs out. Kao said the acquisitions would allow it to deliver multisite services to its customers. It will also expand Kao’s potential capacity to 55MW.
