HPE is the very first anchor tenant at the Canada-based QScale QO1 HPC and AI-specialized data center. When completed, the QO1 campus will have a capacity of 142MW and be powered entirely by renewable energy. Construction on the campus started in June 2021. The campus utilizes liquid cooling, waste heat recovery, and natural cooling, made possible by the cooler climate. The company asserts that it uses 'almost' 100% renewable power, culminating in a PUE of 1.2 or below at all times.
HPE is a well-known developer of supercomputers, having bought Cray in 2019 and contributing to the first verified exascale supercomputer, Frontier, headquartered at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy. HPE offers supercomputers for any environment, onsite or as a service.
Founded in Canada, QScale began building on its QO1 campus in 2021, marking the company's official launch. The second building's construction began in September 2022. Aligned Data Centers provided additional funding to the company this month, the value of which was not disclosed but was described as a major financing round. The funds will be used for future phases of the QO1 campus and to 'accelerate its development of high-density data centers' across Quebec.
