HPE accelerates climate goals

Jun 30, 2022 | Posted by MadalineDunn

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced that it has accelerated climate goals, bringing them down from 2050 to 2040, following its most recent Living Progress Report for Fiscal Year 2021, which it released this week. The tech giant said that it will facilitate this change by establishing a series of interim targets.

This pathway to more sustainable operations includes a commitment to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 70% by 2030 through increasing its use of renewable energy. The company has also outlined a commitment to decreasing its Scope 3 emissions by 42%, by focusing on the use of "sold products, upstream transportation and distribution, and direct supply chain emissions."

HPE also said that in order to advance accountability to reach the goals, it will introduce two initiatives, including a mandatory climate training for all VP and above leaders, and a new compensation metric for members of its Executive Committee that ties a "portion of variable pay" to HPE's management of carbon emissions across its value chain.

Antonio Neri, president and CEO at HPE, wrote in the progress report: "We don't just help our customers meet their ESG goals, we continue to push ourselves and our entire industry forward by improving upon our own. At HPE, we have a significant responsibility and an intentional, focused plan to help our customers, suppliers and communities successfully transition to a zero-carbon future."
