Host in Ireland holds first DCs for Bees event in North America

Nov 17, 2022 | Posted by MadalineDunn

Irish data center group Host in Ireland recently held its first North American event for DCs for Bees. More than 115 volunteers from the data center sector joined in on the event in Loudoun County, Northern Virginia, last week, with the intention of increasing the bee population, and enhancing yield on the farm.

JK Community Farm’s operations will reportedly be boosted by 20,000 pounds per year, with the food produced on the farm is donated to families facing food insecurity in the County via nonprofits including Loudoun Hunger Relief, Food for Others, Arlington Food Assistance Center, and DC Central Kitchen.

During the event, the volunteers built 25 raised beds and planted them with organic vegetation to support pollinators, including bees, with the beds producing 1,000 meals per year. Some of those in attendance included staff from QTS, Stack, Digital Realty, CoreSite, CyrusOne, Aligned Data Centers, EdgeConnex IPI Partners and Iron Mountain, as well as Tate, ComNet, Albireo Energy, Commscope, Graybar, Carter Machinery, Yondr, Sunbelt, Hitt, 7x24 Exchange, Himes Associates, Ardmac, Securis, Loudoun County Economic Development, Moy Materials, RKD Architects, Phaidra, EE Reed, Bala Consulting Engineers, JE Dunn, and Ethos Engineering.
