Yorizon and ACS-owned construction firm Hochtief have broken ground on a new data center in Herne, located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The facility will be the third ‘Yexio’ data center the companies are developing in the region and the fourth across Germany. The project forms part of Yorizon’s broader Germany West cloud region, which the company expects to complete in 2027.
The Germany West region will also include data centers in Heiligenhaus and Bad Lippspringe, both being developed by Hochtief. A fourth German facility is also under development in Bavaria.Construction on the Bad Lippspringe data center began in April 2025 and is scheduled for completion by summer 2026. The facility is expected to provide 2MW of capacity.Meanwhile, construction of the Heiligenhaus data center started in 2024, with operations slated to launch in 2025.
According to a LinkedIn post from Yorizon Cloud, the Herne data center will run entirely on renewable energy, feature sustainable timber-based construction, and supply waste heat to the surrounding neighborhood once operational. The companies have not disclosed the facility’s size or planned power capacity.
After construction is completed by Hochtief, Yorizon Cloud will take over operations and management of the site. Palladio Partners is acting as investment partner for the project, with Hochtief and the Palladio infrastructure fund collaborating on plans to develop up to 15 data centers. Yexio has previously been described as a spin-off of Hochtief PPP Solutions.
