Google this week announced TalayLink, a new subsea cable connecting Australia and Thailand to “significantly increase the reach, reliability, and resilience of digital connectivity across Asia Pacific and around the world.”

As part of the project, Google is also planning new connectivity hubs in Western Australia (Mandurah) and South Thailand. Google has previously said these hubs were smaller and less power hungry than traditional Google data centers and “strategic investments designed to future-proof regional connectivity and accelerate the delivery of next-generation services through three core capabilities: cable switching, content caching, and colocation.”

“The TalayLink cable will serve as a pivotal piece of digital infrastructure, enhancing Thailand’s connectivity and resilience,” said Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General, Thailand Board of Investment. “Together with Google’s upcoming Google Cloud region and data center in Thailand, these forward‑looking investments will significantly expand regional network and computing capacity, while firmly positioning Thailand as a critical digital gateway for next‑generation cloud and AI innovation in Southeast Asia.”
