Google has started paying property taxes at its Oregon data center- 15 years after it launched the facility. The company got a tax bill of $5.2m from Wasco County after its tax break expired. Google developed the data center in 2006. The tax bill might be small for Google, but it will significantly boost the county’s property tax revenue.
Google’s Dalles facility in Oregon was the company’s first purpose-built data center across the globe. Interestingly, the company had received significant tax breaks over the last 15 years that amounted to $240m. Since its first launch, Google has developed more facilities on the site which further earned the company tax breaks.
