Google and Intersect Power have begun construction at the Meitner Energy Center, a colocated data center and energy project spanning Gray and Roberts Counties, Texas. The development combines a data center with more than 1GW of wind, solar, and battery storage capacity. The companies said the colocated model will allow the data center and power generation assets to come online simultaneously, ensuring energy demand is met without placing additional strain on the grid. The facility will use advanced air-cooling systems, limiting water use to small-scale domestic needs such as restrooms.
“Our newest investment in Gray County deepens our partnership with Texas — a state that continues to lead with innovation and vision,” said Andrew Hart, regional head of Data Center Public Affairs, Google. “We are excited to become a part of the community. More than just building a data center, our goal is to be a good neighbor, which starts on day one by investing in local priorities, protecting water and energy resources, and working with residents to build a strong future together.”
Further details on the data center size and construction timeline were not disclosed, and DCD has sought additional information. Earlier reports in March indicated plans for two Texas Panhandle projects, including one supporting a 3GW campus and another capable of hosting 1GW. Google and Intersect Power began partnering in 2024 on colocated renewable energy and data center projects across the US. Their first joint project, announced in November 2025, pairs a data center with Intersect’s Quantum Clean Energy Project in Haskell County, Texas, featuring 640MW of solar and 1.3GWh of storage and expected to start operations this month.
