Athens, Georgia-based Athena Studios is considering converting into a data center, its CEO Joel Harber has said. The film studio has seen a significant decline in movie production demand, according to Harber, which has led to an “oversupply of space and an undersupply of demand.”
Athena Studios’ premises spans 185,000 sq ft (17,187 sqm) and possesses adequate power and air conditioning.
Film production spend in Georgia has dropped significantly. According to the Georgia Film Office, 245 film and television productions spent $2.3 billion as of June 2025, down by nearly half from the same period in 2022.
