Fintech and payments company Fiserv will maintain its data center in Brookfield, Wisconsin, following the relocation of its headquarters to downtown Milwaukee. As per BizJournal, the decision to maintain the data center and its personnel in Brookfield results from the "prohibitive expenses" of relocating the IT equipment. While the data center staff will stay at the Brookfield location, the majority of the present 500 employees will relocate to the new headquarters at 640 Vel R. Phillips Ave. The state offered Fiserv a $7 million incentive to relocate its headquarters downtown. There are already 658 full-time Fiserv employees in Wisconsin, and the business has committed to hiring 322 more over the next five years, including 250 in Milwaukee. This should result in 980 maintained and new employment in Wisconsin.
Given that so few staff are anticipated to remain at the facility, Fiserv may opt to sell the Brookfield location and lease out the data center space. Ann Cave, vice president of external relations, told BJ that the future of the Brookfield facility has not yet been determined. The Brookfield headquarters, located at 255 Fiserv Drive and encompassing 193,000 square feet, is one of the major property tax players in the Brookfield region. In 2022, the property's assessed value was $20 million, while its estimated market value was $23.7 million. Northwestern Mutual is likewise transferring its head office to downtown Milwaukee; however in this case, the company has decided to abandon its data center and shift its operations to the cloud.
